Trial Report Summary

6-Row Barley Test

Crop Type(s):
Barley
Centre(s):
PCDF
Year(s):
2017
Collaborators(s):

Ana Badea – Barley Breeder, AAFC Brandon
Rudy Von Hertzberg – Research Technician, AAFC Brandon

Objective(s):

To evaluate different lines of six-row barley for malting and feed

Project Findings:

Good early-season soil moisture provided excellent growing conditions for barley. Dry growing conditions resulted in relatively low incidence of disease, and appeared to hasten maturity. The yield results for Roblin 2017 represent only one site year, and should not be used to draw broader conclusions. Background:

AAFC Brandon’s barley breeding effort is aimed at developing new varieties of six-row malting barley with improved disease resistance and agronomic performance, combined with enhanced quality traits to expand market opportunities.
