Natural Systems Agriculture program
The Natural Systems Agriculture program at the University of Manitoba has planned three field tours this summer. Join us July 16th and 17th to tour the 3 research sites of the Natural Systems Agriculture program! July 16th, Carman Research Station 6:30-8:30:
  • Organic agronomy
  • Mechanical weed control in cereals, dry edible beans and green manures
  • Organic transition
  • Warm- season cover crops and cover crop mixtures for grazing
  • Farmer-bred wheat and oat lines
  • And more!
Directions: 1.8 km west of the junction of Hwy 3 and 13 at Carman.     July 17th, Glenlea Manitoba 1:30pm-3:30pm - Long term organic rotation plots - Nutrient management with green manures and compost application -Transition from perennial to annual cropping at the NCLE plots Directions: Turn west of Hwy 75 at “Research Station Road” at the Glenlea research farm (20 km south of Winnipeg) and follow signs.   Then! Head to Libau, Manitoba for a twilight tour at our low phosphorus research site!   July 17th, Libau, Manitoba 6:30pm-8:30pm :
  • Alternative phosphorus sources in perennials and annuals on low phosphorus soils.
  • Effect of struvite on crop and weed growth
  • Organic wheat and oat variety tests
  • And more!
Directions: 1 km east of highway 59 on Road 84N (40km north of Winnipeg). Site is on the north side of the road.
