Mid August marks the start of the harvest season for farmers around Manitoba. Its also the start of plot harvesting at the Manitoba’s Crop Diversification Centres. Plots of winter wheat, fall rye, spring wheat, barley, oats, lentils, peas, and mustard are being or will soon be harvested. 2019 has been a bit of an odd year for all of us. The winter wheat crop for CMCDC Carberry is usually ready to harvest by mid August, but the dry conditions experienced throughout the season followed by moisture in mid August has left it a little behind. Once the winter cereals are done the crew will move into the spring wheat, barley and the rest of the later season crops. Before you know it the harvest season will be over and research results will be available to share with industry partners, producers, and research groups.
We at the Manitoba Crop Diversification Centers wish you a safe and successful 2019 harvest season.
